Day 1: Home- San Jose, Costa Rica
Fly to San Jose Costa Rica. Our coach bus will transfer us to our San Jose Hotel. Students will be given time to relax before heading out for the evening. Dinner will be eaten at a restaurant near our hotel. A basic Spanish lesson will also be introduced in game or discussion format.
Day 2: In Heredia
In the morning we will take a walking tour of San Jose and visit the national museum and visit the central market. Afterwards we will head to the town of Heredia. Students will visit the Britt Coffee plantation and participate in a tour. Students will participate in a hike at Volcano Barva iniside Braulio Carillo National Park. We will return to the hotel for a relaxing evening and another basic Spanish lesson.
Day 3: Heredia- Arenal Volcano Region
Today our journey takes us up north to the area of the Arenal Volcano. Along the way to Arenal we will stop for lunch and a hike at La Paz Waterfall Gardens and Butterfly Farm. The Butterfly Observatory in La Paz Gardens is one of the largest in the world. It includes an on-site laboratory where countless species are bred. Upon arrival we will check into our hotel relax, go for a swim and later go for dinner in the town.
Day 4: Arenal / La Fortuna
Some of the most impressive views in all of Costa Rica are found in and around the town of Arenal. This morning we will be biking on a quiet road around Lake Arenal surrounded by dense forest and farms. After lunch we will participate in some leisurely kayaking around Lake Arenal.
Day 5: Arenal – Manuel Antonio
On this day we will travel from the Arenal region to Manuel Antonio, which is situated on the Pacific Coast. On our way to Manuel Antonio we will stop at a local school and interact with some of the school children. Games and Spanish/English interaction will help to form real friendships with our Costa Rican counterparts. Afterwards we will continue on our way to Manuel Antonio. Day 6: Manuel Antonio
In the morning we will participate in a tour of Manuel Antonio National Park with a professional local tour guide. The Park preserves the idyllic beaches and much of the wildlife such as squirrel monkeys. The Park is situated right on the ocean and overlooks deep blue waves crashing onshore with beautiful look out points. In the afternoon, we will get on board a catamaran boat tour of Manuel Antonio; snorkel, swim and see dolphins at play. Day 7: Manuel Antonio
Today we will paddle through the smooth inland waterways of the Damas Island Estuary, one of the most unusual types of vegetation on the planet, and learn the importance of this delicate ecosystem. You will float under a lush canopy of rainforest, silently watching an spectacular variety of birds, snakes, and ant eaters. After our tour we will head down to the town of Quepos for some lunch and shopping. The late afternoon will be spent relaxing by the beach. Day 8: Jaco- Puntarenas- San Jose
In the morning we will wake up early and head over to the town of Jaco, which is one of the most famous surfing beach towns in the country. Upon a brief drive by both towns we will head to the town of Puntarenas to participate in a Crocodile Tour on the Tarcoles River. This tour will give you an opportunity to see crocodiles in their natural habitat. At the end of the day we will convene for a Final Night Banquet and say our Goodbyes. Day 9: San Jose- Home
Rise early and eat or last Costa Rican Breakfast. Head to the airport where we will fly home.
